Dr Tashi Samdup sworn in as the new Director General for the Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority, (BAFRA) on 6th May 2020. Dr Tashi who hails from Thimphu has been in the civil service since 1991 with a working experience of over 29 years.
Prior to the present post, he served as the Director General for the Department of Livestock from 2013 till date. He also served as the Director for the Council of RNR Research of Bhutan. Besides, he served under the National Animal Hospital, Royal Veterinary Epidemiological Centre in Serbithang, Brown Swiss Farm and Horse Breeding Farm in Bumthang and National Jersey Breeding Centre in various capacities contributing to the significant developmental activities.
Dr Tashi holds a Ph.D and a Masters Degree from Wageningen University, Netherlands. During his MSc degree he was awarded the Prof. Henk Vander Plas award (Gold Medalist) to the most outstanding student amongst the master students in January 2017.
He also has a Bachelor Degree in Veterinary Medicine, Surgery and Animal Husbandry from Kerala Agriculture University in India.
