Namgay Wangchuk, hailing from Kawang-Jangsa, Thimphu Dzongkhag joined the Bhutan Civil Service in the Department of Forests, under the present Ministry of Agriculture and Forests in 1982, after graduating from St. Edmund’s College, Shillong, Meghalaya with B.Sc (Botany Honours)Degree.He served in the Forest Department from 1982 till 1999,during which period he went on to get a B.Sc Degree (Forest Management) from the University of Washington, Seattle, Washington State, USA. He also has a Masters Degree (Resources Management) from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.
He served as CEO of erstwhile Forestry Development Corporation Ltd (now Natural Resources Development Corporation Ltd.) from 2000 till 2003.
He was appointed as the Dzongdag of Trashigang Dzongkhag from 2003 till 2006 and transferred to Paro Dzongkhag as Dzongdag from 2006-2009.
From 2009 he served as the Director General of the new Department of Disaster Management under Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs (about 4 ½ Years),then in the Council of RNR Research of Bhutan (CoRRB) under Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (about 2 years).
Presently he is the Director General of Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA),since August 2015 and also one of the Board Directors of Bhutan Standards Bureau.
