PLANT BIOSECURITY

The Plant Biosecurity Section and Plant Quality Control Section under Plant and Animal Biosecurity Division (PABD) exercises the powers conferred under the Plant Quarantine Act of Bhutan 1993, Seed Act of Bhutan 2000 and Pesticides Act of Bhutan 2000. It is aimed at implementing the Plant Bio-security measures to protect the health and life of humans, plants and animals including the environment from risks of entry, establishment and spread of exotic pests and diseases. At the same time to increases market access and facilitates sustainable economic growth.

These covers following biosecurity and regulatory measures;

  1. Import of plants and plant products
  2. In-country movement permit for plants and plant products
  3. Registration of nursery operators for seed certification
  4. Issuance of Phytosanitary Certificate for export facilitation
